Survival Mode or Trust God?

lake sunrise with a cross

Though God promises supernatural peace and protection, we don’t always feel safe in our day-to-day lives. The issue isn’t the reality of God’s presence and power; rather, our perceptions, emotions, and past experiences distort our ability to trust Him.

When trouble strikes, we can easily shift into survival mode instead of reliance on God. Our minds race with doubt and frightening “what-ifs” rather than affirming truths.

How do we stop the torment in our mind? We must continually renew our minds according to biblical truth--we immerse ourselves in reminders of God’s character for good and declare aloud these promises whenever anxiety strikes.

Here is a powerful declaration to proclaim:

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea…Be still and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:1-2, 10)

Allow God’s word to dwell richly in your soul, fortifying your spirit against onslaughts of dread and fear. His perfect love casts out all fear. You can rest securely, not in your own strength, but in the safety of God’s arms.

Determine now not to let depression, anxiety, or sadness sideline you from embracing the freedom of trusting God today. You may not always feel steady or safe, but He promises everlasting peace and confidence for those who abide in Him. Stand securely on that unshakable truth!
